Ages 5-18 (How do I get started)

My favorite age to start a new student is at five years. Prior to that it would be wonderful to be in our early childhood program – Music Together. Parents attend all lessons with the beginning student and also learn the beginning stages of playing the violin.  Parents are responsible for supervising the home practice while the student is in the early stages.  Students starting from age 10 or older do not need to have a parent attending their lessons.

Students in the Conservatory take one private lesson each week. Beginning students usually start with a 30 minute lesson, then move up to a 45 and then 60 minute lesson as they advance. In addition to the private lesson, students attend Saturday workshops where they practice with other students at their level. The schedule of these workshops is on the Date Sheet. Students perform in two solo recitals and one ensemble concert (called the Annual Concert on the Date Sheet) each year.  We will also play at the Atterdag Village in December and present a Christmas Concert.

The first step in investigating this program is to come and observe a lesson or group class. Text or call me at 714-0775 or email to and we’ll set up a time.

The second step is to take the Introductory Course:

Introduction to the Violin

a One Week Course

for students aged 5-10 and their parents

or 11-18 for student only

June 18 to 22, 2018

Five one hour sessions for child and parent in five days. Learn how to hold the instrument, produce a good tone with the bow, place your fingers, and play the first piece in the Suzuki Repertoire.

No supplies are necessary. The correct size violin will be provided at each session.

No chance to develop bad habits as all practicing is monitored by Miss Diane
